The Board of Supervisors welcomes comments from the public during the time allowed for discussion. You are requested to approach the microphone, state your name for the record and limit the time used to present your remarks in order that others may be given the opportunity to speak. The normal process on any agenda item is for the Chair to read the item from the agenda. The Board is given an opportunity to comment on the issue and/or place a motion on the floor. An opportunity for discussion may be presented at which time the public may participate and a roll call vote will follow.

7.

Adopt Resolution 2023-0012 Supporting the Home Base Iowa Initiative

  •   WHEREAS the Office of the Governor of the State of Iowa has launched a public-private partnership called Home Base Iowa initiative, which is an effort to match military veterans with jobs available across Iowa; and
  •   WHEREAS the Home Base Iowa initiative consists of two programs, Home Base Iowa Businesses and Home Base Iowa Communities; and Iowa businesses and communities have been requested to join, promote and support the Home Base Iowa initiative and one of the requirements for Marshall County to be a Home Base Community is that the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution of support.
  •   WHEREAS The Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce, as the lead economic development organization serving the county, recognizes there is a workforce shortage in Marshall County, and this program will serve as an additional tool to grow the pool of qualified applicants for our employers; and
  •   WHEREAS The Marshall County Veteran Affairs Office assists all qualifying veterans living in Marshall County, and recognizes that this program will serve an additional resource to help attract veterans to our county, as well as assist veterans currently residing here that are looking for employment; and
  •   WHEREAS the Marshall County Board of Supervisors finds that it is in the best interests of Marshall County and veterans everywhere to support the Home Base Iowa initiative and adopt this resolution.
  •   NOW, THEREFORE it is resolved by the Marshall County, Iowa Board of Supervisors, as follows: 
  •   Section 1. The Marshall County Board of Supervisors hereby approves this resolution of support for the Home Base Iowa initiative and declares Marshall County to be a Home Base Iowa Community.
  •   Section 2. The Board of Supervisors encourages Marshall County businesses to take whatever actions are necessary to become and continue to be a Home Base Iowa Business and other Marshall County municipalities to take whatever actions are necessary to become and continue to be a Home Base Iowa Community.

ADOPT RESOLUTION 2023-0011 COUNTY COMPENSATION BOARD COMPENSATION SCHEDULE FOR ELECTED OFFICIALS

WHEREAS the Marshall County Compensation Board meets annually to recommend a compensation schedule for elected officials in accordance with Iowa Code Chapters 331.905 and 331.907; and 

WHEREAS the Marshall County Compensation Board met on January 5, 2023, and made the following salary recommendations for the following elected officials for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2023:
