Learn how to request and receive a certified birth record.
Available Records
- Iowa birth records from 1983 to Present are available in all Iowa counties regardless of where the birth occurred.
- Birth records from 1880–1984 must be obtained from:
- The county where the birth occurred, or
- The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services
Marshall County birth records begin in 1880.
Records Not Available Through Marshall County
The following records may only be available through the State of Iowa:
- Single-parent births prior to 1984
- Adoptions prior to 1984
- Court-sealed records
- Certain records from 1921–1941
Plain paper copies are not available for adoption or certain amended records obtained through the state system.
