Arney Bend Wildlife Management Area
The 203-acre Arney Bend Wildlife Area was purchased by the Marshall County Conservation Board in 1980 to conserve and manage an important segment of wildlife habitat adjacent to the Iowa River. The area is primarily river bottom forest with several oxbows. Native prairie restoration in some areas has improved the habitat diversity to provide for more species of wildlife.
A grant from the Iowa Wildlife Habitat Stamp fund provided 75% of the cost of the acquisition. The remaining monies came from Marshall County Conservation Board funds and numerous businesses, civic organizations, and individual donations.
Technical assistance was given by the Izaak Walton League of America Endowment. The Iowa Division and the Marshall County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League efforts to secure significant donations toward this acquisition project are greatly appreciated.
The area consists of undeveloped natural areas with forest and prairie.
